Despierta (Wake Up)

Despierta

Despierta (English: Wake Up) is about the dreams we think are real. Maria seems to be remembering living a different kind of life, a life totally different from the one she has with Javi. What’s real and what’s fantasy? Has she truly waken up yet?

This micro-short film is about the dreams we have of living an entirely different life from our own. It’s also rather reminiscent of an old folktale about a farmer who woke up in a prince’s bed and imagined that his farmer’s life was a dream. But really, how are we to know what is real and what is imagined? This film, in its 3 minutes, blurs the lines between real and imaginary, making you doubt what the true reality is.

I’ve had dreams myself of being someone else, but I sometimes think that the person I am now would be quite different from the one I was 5, 10, or 20 years ago. What about you? What do you think of Maria’s so-called dream?

I'm the webmaster and author at Freespanishshortfilms.com. I started this website as a complement to my studies in the Spanish language, but honestly, it just gave me an excuse to watch lots of great short films (like the ones in my author's picks section). I also blog and write short stories.
