These films are some of the author’s personal favorites. Genres vary, but all are special to me in their own unique way.
Al Compás (To the Beat, in English) presents a rather interesting scenario. There’s a man in an office, and he has with him a few papers. He looks over each one, just like a conductor, and arranges the sheets for his convenience. With the stage set, he starts the metronome. Ministro (Minister, in English) starts with a man and a birthday gift. It was given by his daughter, who he plans to pick up after school along with his wife. The man seems happy as he puts down the phone, but he is apologetic towards the semi-naked woman in his office. She merely stares at the politician, who then receives an intriguing message. Yo Soy Un Hombre Loco (I Am A Crazy Man, in English) is an action-packed short film of a man wanting to be number one. It starts off with a guy in coattails heading into a house, and martial arts-filled combat then fills each minute. There is also a man who is training hard to fight, and over and over he says, “Yo soy un hombre loco.” Continue Reading
La Princesa Alegría (The Princess Happiness, in English) is about a girl telling the story of Princesa Alegria/Princess Happiness, a princess so happy that whoever she talks to becomes filled with complete joy. She tells the story with drawings and paintings, and a boy, a king, and a woman soon become involved in the tale. The story is told in a mix of animation and reality, and what exactly is real may not be as important as what someone, in their deepest of hearts, believes is true. Continue Reading
