A La Orilla begins with a young boy’s birthday, and he’s just about to blow out the candles on his cake. He takes a while in doing so, but after being reassured by his sister, he blows them out. We then see him fishing with his father, as they happily talk to each other. Paseo starts on a cold day. One man, a poet, is preparing a cigarette. Another man comes to him and asks him for one too, but the first man says it’s the last one he has. They share the cigarette instead, and speak little. They then notice the man crying behind them, who says he’s sad as he was never able to confess to a woman. He grows up learning that man is driven by sexual desire in particular, and not endearing sentiments. Cubo Mágico starts with an old man. He’s lying in a hospital bed, with only a Rubik’s cube in his hands. He plays with the cube as the machines start to pulsate to the beat of his heart. He makes a final turn, and he falls into his pillows. After a while, we see the same man, with the same cube. What does the Rubik’s cube mean for the man? Why does he keep trying to solve it?
